Serenity

Dan

So cool. Orson Scott Card had a great review over on his website.

All I heard was, “It’s great, you’ll love it.”

Well, guess what.

It’s great.

I’m not going to say it’s the best science fiction movie, ever.

Oh, wait. Yes I am.

Lost

Dan

It’s great when a season premiere is as good as anything that was going on the last season. It makes you feel all warm and fuzzy inside.

Or very confused.

Poo Party!

Dan

That’s right! The boys are both well on their way to being potty trained. And to celebrate the monthly savings of $60+ per month (plus the added bonus of not cleaning up human waste) we broke down and spent $10 on party gear!.

My family came over, with even a visit from Uncle Steve all the way from Provo! It was great to have everyone together and I know that the boys had a great time. I mean, what’s not to love about uncles to play with, sugar to inhale and all the batman/spiderman masks you could ever need?

Good Writing

Dan

Is it something you are born with? Or is it something that can be learned?

I consider myself fairly good at carrying on conversations, telling a lively story, making people laugh. But I don’t consider myself a good writer. There are a million blogs out there with 2 million different types of content. Do you need to do something unique to be noticed? Definately yes.

But this brings on the next question. Do I need to be noticed? Don’t get me wrong, I think it would be great to be making a 6 digit income just from blogging (I say just, but the guy obviously puts a ton of work into his sites) But I don’t have the time, desire, skill etc.. to get something like that working.

I would love to have my own niche somewhere, where I could do the things that I love and be happy doing them. I’m having a great time at TheraDoc, but I would also love to pursue some of my own projects. To have something and really make it my own. I still think there is a lot of money to be had managing my dad’s ideas.

So what was the point of this? Nothing, and I guess that’s why I still have a ways to go if I’m going to ever be a good writer. (Provided of course it’s something I can learn)

Just Like Heaven

Dan

Just Like Heaven

We got set up on a couple date last night with Paul and Kristina Kelly. Everyone came to our house and then the Grandparents stayed around to be with the various sets of twins. Paul and Kristina have a boy and a girl twin who are 9 months old. It was fun to go out and talk about our various experiences. Seeing their twins at such a young age brought back lots of memories. Both fond and not so fond. In some ways it was really nice to have the boys not be able to go anywhere when we put them down. But I don’t miss the long nights.

After dinner the Kellys had to get home so they could get the boys down. Tammy and I took advantage of the babysitters to go to a movie. We went and saw the new movie Just Like Heaven. It was definatley a chick flick, but one of those chick flicks that is actually ok to go to. It had the guy who played the main character in Napolean Dynamite in a supporting role.

Definitely worth seeing. And if it gets you out of the house away from the kids. All the better

Katrina shows need to computerize records

Katrina shows need to computerize records

Federal health officials are working to open a database of prescription drug records to help Hurricane Katrina evacuees piece their health care back together.

The project, still developing three weeks after the disaster, underscores the glaring reality that the hurricane destroyed medical records of untold numbers of people, possibly complicating treatment decisions for years to come.

And it’s focusing new attention on the need for computerized medical records, accessible in an emergency even if the patient is far from home or their doctor’s office no longer exists.

Health Records

What a wakeup call to the everyone that there needs to be a better way to store a patients information. When I look at some of these offices that have rooms stuffed full of paper records going back for years I’m amazed at the risk that is being taken. One fire, flood, hurricane or earthquake could wipe out YEARS of important data!

Companies that provide methods for storing your own health record in your own application are going to see a big increase from this.
